CHECK YOUR LOAD SECUREMENT

By September 9, 2025Blog Posts

Even if your load is expertly secured when loaded, once it and your trailer is in motion, things can move and may change.

FMCSA 392.9, Inspection of Cargo Securement Devices and Systems, requires drivers to inspect cargo and securement before driving the vehicle and again at approximately 50 miles from where the cargo was loaded.

Periodic inspection of cargo and securement devices and systems is mandatory when:

  • There is a change of duty status for the driver, or
  • The vehicle has been driven more than three hours, or
  • The vehicle has been driven for approx.. 150 miles.

So, when picking up a loaded trailer in the yard, check the load and the cargo during your pre-trip inspection.
