Constitution Day is observed every year on September 17 to honor the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. This historic document laid the foundation for our system of government and established the freedoms and rights that Americans enjoy today.

Originally recognized as Citizenship Day, the observance was renamed Constitution Day and Citizenship Day in 2004. It serves not only as a reminder of the Constitution’s significance but also as a time to reflect on the duties of citizenship. Schools and organizations across the country mark the occasion with educational activities, discussions, and community events.

Whether by reading the Constitution, attending a civic program, or simply reflecting on the rights it protects, Constitution Day encourages all Americans to appreciate the enduring importance of this remarkable document.
