Dear valued client,

Federal regulators have revised the HIPAA Privacy Rule to strengthen protections for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment records, which are subject to stricter confidentiality requirements under 42 CFR Part 2. These updates ensure that the Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) clearly explains how SUD information may be used and disclosed, aligning HIPAA with newer federal standards and reducing confusion between HIPAA and Part 2 rules. Overall, the changes aim to enhance patient privacy and create greater consistency in how sensitive treatment records are handled across the healthcare system.
