Roxy Ann / Prescott Park

This is a supplement to a previous blog about my four favorite Southern Oregon trails.

Roxy Ann / Prescott Park

Looking east from downtown Medford, you’ll see the iconic Roxy Ann Peak which happens to sit in the middle of Prescott Park. Well maintained, the system of trails and routes in Prescott Park are suitable for all levels of experience and abilities, whether you’re hiking, biking, or just walking the dog.

Prescott Park is 1,740 acres of hiking and mountain biking trails, both paved and unpaved, with exceptional views of the Rogue Valley. Roxy Ann Peak is the highlight of this park with its 3,571 foot peak offering stunning vistas of not only the valley but as far as Mount Shasta.

Two large parking areas at the end of Roxy Ann Road, trailhead is across from the top parking lot. All trails are well marked with a labeled post. At multiple location you will find information kiosks with a large map, also showing where you are in the park. At the picnic area you will see beautiful views of the valley. As you continue around the loop road you can see views of Upper and Lower Table Rocks, Mount McLoughlin, even Mount. Thielsen. If you decide to take the road to the top, the last half mile is the toughest with 500 feet of elevation gain. The view at the top will reward you well with one of the best views of the Rogue Valley. Looking south, you can see Mount A, Pilot Rock and California’s Mount Shasta.

Besides the great scenic views, there are wildflowers galore, madrone trees, deer, coyotes, and many species of birds. Be aware of poison oak and possible ticks in the warmer months, and slippery trails in the rainier season. Also remember, you are in the great outdoors, so you may see a snake, pay attention to your surroundings and watch where your step.

Roxy Ann Peak and Prescott Park offers a unique system of trails perfect for family hike, trail running, mountain biking, bird watching and dog walking. Enjoy the unbeatable views of the Rogue Valley. Equestrians are also welcome to the trails. Take advantage of this Medford City Park where you feel as if your in the wild… so close to town.

Enjoy!
