Gear shift knobs are color coordinated to assist in identifying how many gears or speeds your truck has. If it has a red shift knob, it is a 13-speed transmission. If it has a blue knob, it is a 15-speed transmission. If it has a grey knob, it is an 18- speed transmission. I if your truck has a 13-speed transmission in it, do not use the first gear position if in direct or over. First gear position is the gear position directly under reverse. This gear is only to be used in low range for adverse launching starts. If used in direct and over, transmission damage will result. When backing up, direct can be used, however come to a complete stop before shifting into direct. Failure to do so can result in damage to transmission.
