The bark of a tree, in many ways, serves as the trees armor. Redwood trees are known for their extremely thick reddish-brown bar usually around 6-12 inches thick. In older redwoods, bark has been measured up to 24 inches thick! The thickness of the bark and its high water-content is the reason redwoods, especially older trees can survive wildfires and are incredibly resilient.
